When Dr. Nathan first began in 1985, there was one full time office and two fledgling satellite offices that had a combined total of 3,000 feet of space and just two full time surgeons. Currently, through his efforts of organic growth of the 3 existing locations, acquisition of other practices, opening of new “start-up” offices and adding additional surgeons, the organization has grown to eight locations. These offices span over seventy miles, from Frederick to Annapolis Maryland encompassing Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince Georges counties along with D.C. and Northern Virginia. MOSA has grown to occupy approximately 30,000 square feet, with thirteen surgeons and one hundred staff members. In 1995, Dr. Nathan renamed the practice MARYLAND ORAL SURGERY ASSOCIATES. He also established a separate management company, MOSA Management LLC (MOSA-M), which provides comprehensive administrative responsibilities for all eight locations, and he serves as its President and CEO.
MOSA Management services include: Accounting, with an in-house CPA and Staff Accountants, Accounts Payable, and Marketing and Continued Education for the dental community as well as the MOSA surgeons. Our Human Relations Department’s responsibilities include recruiting, vetting and hiring of all staff together with administrating benefits, monitoring OSHA, Infection Control, HIPAA compliance, and assuring employee rights and responsibilities. MOSA-M has several Senior level Insurance Administrators and Trainers, each with over 20 years’ experience, who review all claims and patient refunds, in addition to providing in-house individual office staff-member training on the latest insurance coding and insurance requirements. Furthermore, the management team acquires the surgeons’ hospital and insurance credentials and negotiates for the highest possible fee reimbursements from the 100+ participating insurance companies. MOSA-M has negotiated Hospital-level discounted pricing for dental implants, medical supplies, and surgical/ dental equipment. The management company also acquires and negotiates staff health, dental, and disability insurance, as well as monitors a Pension and Profit-sharing plan along with a matching 401K plan.
In 2016, after thirty-one years as a practicing surgeon, Dr. Nathan transitioned to committing his full-time efforts to the administration of the MOSA Management. Maryland Oral Surgery Associates is now one of the largest privately-owned Oral/ Maxillofacial Surgery practices in the United States. Along with a large and highly experienced team, he helps to keep the operations in the eight Maryland locations running smoothly. These efforts allow the MOSA Surgeons and Staff to concentrate their full attention to top quality, “state of the art” surgical and patient care that MOSA has been known for since its inception fifty years ago. MOSA doctors have been honored to care for nearly 400,000 patients since its inception in 1969. We are proudly celebrating our Golden 50TH anniversary in 2019!
MOSA Management’s future plan is to continue to widen its base of the organization by further expanding existing offices, opening new offices, along with acquiring existing practices in the Maryland, D.C., and Virginia areas. It is also increasing its management/consulting services to many members within the dental and medical community- locally and across the country. MOSA Management’s most important goals are to keep Maryland Oral Surgery Associates at its peak position within the Dental and Medical community by providing the highest level of state of -the art patient care and concern.
Dr Nathan loves spending his free time with his wife (and MOSA consultant) Danielle, three wonderful children, their spouses, extended family, and his many special friends. His hobbies include skiing, exercising, traveling, fishing, kayaking, reading and community activities.
